Farm Crew Positions
About the Position
We are seeking to add 1 new team member for the 2020 growing season, with the intention to continue into long-term employment.
The position will begin in mid-January and will be ongoing. You will be trained and expected to do a variety of tasks, including greenhouse work, field work, washing and packing. Expect the work to be physically and mentally demanding. While you will not be pushed beyond your limits, the position will require a strong commitment on your behalf. Any outside engagements, or specific needs should be disclosed with your application.
Land Size: 6.5 acres
Location: Harvey, WA, Australia
Growing Practices: We follow the National Organic Standards, utilising a combination of tractor-scale mechanisation and hand-tools. This summer, we will have a quarter of an acre under greenhouse production.
If you are unable to work the hours stated below, however would like to be considered for future positions, please send through your application form with the modified hour and days you are able to work, as we will most likely be needing additional employees in the future.
This is a casual position, with the opportunity to become full-time after a year.
We expect the successful applicant to be available 5 days per week, Monday to Friday.
SUMMER HOURS: 7am - 11am; 2pm - 6pm, with an unpaid lunch break/siesta from 11am-2pm, in order to beat the heat.
WINTER HOURS: 8am - 5pm, with a one hour unpaid lunch break.
Specific start and finish times may vary depending on the seasons.
$25/hour, plus 9.5% super, with pay increases in-line with work experience and farm responsibilities.
We expect all crew members to take time off when needed, as farmer burnout is real. Due to the demanding nature of the farm’s schedule, we expect all time off to be discussed and arranged at least 3 months in advance, when possible.
As a guide, we expect and are happy with all crew members taking a cumulative amount of 4-6 weeks off each year, staggered. For all casual employees, this time will be unpaid. Extended time off is strongly discouraged during peak growing seasons of summer, spring and autumn.
Accommodation can be provided for a nominal fee.
If commuting from Perth, there is a train from Perth to Harvey twice a day, however the times do not align with our standard work day, so we would recommend on-farm or in-town accommodation.
